How your gift will be used

A legacy allows you to work in partnership with the University of York towards a shared vision of the future.

Designating how your gift is to be used is up to you.

Most donors are happy to make a gift for general purpose. These are very valuable, as they allow the University to invest in its most important goals, now and in the future.

Your legacy gift can be used in a variety of areas, to help others to succeed:

  • By nurturing talent:  bursaries or scholarships ensure gifted students from all backgrounds will always have the opportunity to study at York
  • By making life-changing discoveries:  furthering our academic research and helping the University to attract and retain the finest minds from around the world.
  • By creating buildings and facilities: to provide an environment and equipment to enable us continue to extend the boundaries of knowledge and understanding.

It is also possible to designate your gift for a particular purpose, and we would be delighted to work with you to ensure that your wish is fulfilled.

When you decide the time is right to start planning your estate, we recommend you contact our team for a confidential discussion, regarding your interests and how your gift could provide maximum benefit to the University.

Why I give...

Tony Bews

"My days at the University of York  will always live in my memory as a time when life's opportunities became achievable possibilities. I was very happy to make a clause in my will leaving a legacy to the University.  I know that this money will be spent wisely and will help to give future students the start in life which was so generously given to me by those who came before."

Tony Bews (Physics, 1969)
