Help us...

stimulate innovation in the arts and culture

Educating our students is only part of our commitment to taking art and culture into our community.

The University of York benefits the cultural landscape, economy and social diversity of the city of York through a rich mix of events each year.

Enriching peoples’ lives through art and culture by providing world-class venues and resources to the local community and supporting creative and talented students requires investment.

Please work with us to help support culture and the arts

The Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall

The Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall is York’s only purpose built concert venue. It attracts leading artists from around the world, offers an invaluable space for students to develop advanced performing skills and provides a venue for a wide range of local community music ensembles.

The concert hall is now approaching 50 years old and is in need of a major refurbishment. This will give a new lease of life to the venue and act as a catalyst for the continued growth of world-class musical programmes in York.

The Festival of Ideas

In partnership with organisations across the city, the Festival of Ideas celebrates York’s rich tradition of artistic creativity and intellectual thought.

It brings together a range of world-class speakers, exhibitions, and artistic performances exploring a series of intriguing links between past and present as well as showcasing contemporary ideas, arts and culture.
