Healthy Body Healthy Mind

Healthy Body, Healthy Mind is the University of York’s scheme to provide students who are struggling with their wellbeing with complimentary access to York Sport facilities. Money from YuCycle will be used to help this initiative.

College Sport at York

College Sport is York’s way of promoting lower commitment with sporting activity than taking part in sports teams. Less competitive and more social, college sport is focussed on creating a community that students feel part of and proud of through sport. Money raised from YuCycle will help to expand the programme to include more opportunities to engage even more students.

Nightline provides students with an anonymous listening service if they need an outlet for their problems throughout the night. Nightline is entirely student-led and does some incredibly important work for students at the University of York. Money raised from YuCycle will help to ensure that this volunteering project runs at the very best that it can.

Mind Your Head

Mind Your Head is a campaign to provide University of York students with adequate information on mental health. YuCycle will support Mind Your Head and its volunteers to continue to provide useful, accessible information to students at the University of York.

Give it a Go

This is YUSU’s programme to inspire one-off, low commitment participation in student opportunities at York. The programme covers everything from careers to volunteering, but money raised from YuCycle will be used to cover facilities and transport hire costs to help students take part in sports activities without bearing a financial burden.

Give it a Go

We’re going to be launching a number of competitions to encourage University of York members to take part in YuCycle. Stay tuned to find out how you can get rewarded for taking part in YuCycle!

need a bike?

YuCycle will require you to find a bike of your own to take part - but don’t see it as an unnecessary cost, see it as a commitment to getting active and supporting your own wellbeing in 2017!

If you’re looking at purchasing a bike immediately, the key thing to look at is the bike’s weight. The lighter the bike, the more suitable it will be for riding. You will also need to ensure that your bike has slick tyres rather than mountain tyres - slick tyres are far more suited to road riding.

Mountain bikes with slick tyres, although heavier, are still suitable for riding. Mountain bikes without slick tyres will be unsuitable for riding.

Recycled Bike Discount

To all University of York students and staff who sign up to YuCycle, we are offering £40 off a recycled bike thanks to the University’s Travel and Transport Team and Travel2Campus. Simply sign up to YuCycle 2017 and email for more info on how you can get your hands on this limited offer!

Pool Bikes

The University has a very limited number of bikes available for extended hire in the run up to YuCycle. Extended hire will be granted to students or staff at the University who have already signed up for YuCycle. Proof of registration will be required. For more information, email Fiona Macey (

UYCC - Bikes for Hire

If you can’t get a bike for hire from the University, you may be able to hire a bike from the University of York Cycling Club. Again, these are very limited.

Cycle to Work

If you’re a member of University staff, you will be able to purchase a bike through the University’s Cycle to Work scheme. For more information on this scheme, head here: Cycle to Work scheme.

YuCycle depends on the help of volunteers to run a successful and safe event. If you would like to join our team, there are a variety of roles that you can choose which make a difference to the smooth running of the day and the great experience of our riders.

From helping with the registration desk or staffing a refreshment stop to volunteering as a marshal, there’s something for everyone and you can be sure of a great day out.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided and all our volunteers will attend a pre-event briefing.
